Winters Hidden Beauty

Winter’s Hidden Beauty by Aviva Tarnoff
I used to only see emptiness in winter
It was barren, just waiting for spring to come along and melt its frost
It meant numb hands and slippery roads
It was canceled plans and stinging winds
What I didn’t see was how snowflakes fell softly like wisps of cotton
What I didn’t see was how frozen rivers glistened in the sun
I have learned to view winter in another way
It has a beautiful darkness with light peaking through its icey cracks
There is strength in its silence and healing in its harshness
Pure, delicate, and powerful is the winter I have come to know
