Gegoosheld

Gegoosheld by Emily Fleming

Terra cota

Slabbed cacti

Bobcat claws

Coyote teeth

The mountains are jagged tonight Fall into the needle, please don’t fight alone in the valley tonight

Mind all alight

Endless noise

Pokes like weeds

Awake it keeps me

Victim of the valley

Soul stranded

Below these mountains

Run in circles

Still stranded

Born inside a cage

Raw as slate, feel no pain

Like the mountains’ scars I ache

As the scalding fires rape

The precious skin of brush

And ravage the raw arid clay

And as dusk falls the trees they sway

Mourning their innocence lost in the blaze.
