Icarus by Jeremy Gee

I am an Icarus

Flying too close to the sun

I was not made for this

Not ready though it’s begun

I wanna soar through the sky

And though we all die

At least for a moment for me

I  truly did fly

I don’t wanna go back

The unfortunate fact

The ground is torment to me

Leave me in the blue or pitch black

For I am an Icarus

I can not stop

Don’t know when I’m at the top

Let me soar into the sun

You will know when I’m done

For I am an Icarus

I will never learn

That I will crash and burn

I am an Icarus

I am an Icarus

I’ve been burned by the sun

I could not prepare for this

Let me fall and be done

The heat burns at my shirt

Pretending, I remain unhurt

I see that a fall is to be

I will hit the dirt

I’ve escaped out of my jail

Burning the sky with a trail

This still all to be

For a boy destined to fail
